If you are over 40 years, you may have noticed that it is harder to objects that are held too close to the eyes to concentrate. This condition is called presbyopia, and it is the only disease that affects 100% of the human population. But what can we do about itit?
Unfortunately, it is impossible to reverse this situation, once it has begun! Thus, we draw on reading glasses or bifocals.
But there is another solution! Monovision!
While not perfect, but Monovision is a good way to correct both near and distance problems, and it works well for about 90% of patients.
The dominant eye is fully corrected for distance vision (in patients who do not need glasses for distance vision may not surgeryRequirements in that eye!)
The non-dominant eye is short-sighted enough to offer good seeing near
Patients unable to tolerate monovision usually complain that things are just not as clear as they work with both eyes together. Some people get dizzy or ill, with monovision.
To get the best of both worlds, have your eye doctor will discuss with you monovision correction. Then consider surgery to make it permanent!
